If you're anything like most marketers, you probably have a love-hate relationship with content planning. There’s infinite possibilities and competing priorities to stay on top of cultural moments, your organization’s mission, and what’s trendy on each platform. Now more than ever, you want something that works and makes it easy to do your job. This is why we’re introducing for our Airtable social media calendar.
You can sign up here to get our Airtable content calendar. It includes a tutorial on how to use it, too.
Airtable is a versatile cloud-based software that allows users to create custom databases for their specific needs. At Slam Media Lab (Slam), we’ve built an Airtable social media calendar to help companies scale their marketing efforts, managing thousands of articles, social media content, and emails.
The calendar is easy to use and helps users keep track of their social media posts and interact with their followers.
Why is Airtable a Great Social Media Planner?
Airtable allows users to customize their content strategy and workflow based on their roles, preferences, and types of content. Unlike using Google Sheets or a Trello board for social media, Airtable is really strong when it comes to planning and organizing.
Benefits of using Airtable as a social media calendar include:
- Storing a lot of content (we’re talking rows and rows and rows of data) like a spreadsheet
- Collaborating with a team where each person has different content they need to see or focus on (i.e. graphic designer, writer, project manager)
- Finding any piece of content quickly using filters and search
- Automatically creating a social media posting schedule
- And our favorite – integrating forms and other apps like Zapier to automate processes
If you’re interested in using Airtable for your social media calendar, but not sure where to start, we’ve put together a helpful tutorial. Sign up here to download it.
Storing Content Files
Airtable’s social media content calendar allows you to upload files (images, docs) natively to the platform. In the image below, you’ll see that it’s as easy as dropping a file in that box. You can also integrate other services like Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive to store your content files.
If you’re a Google Sheets user and you’re dragging in a cell to make it happen, you’re doing it wrong and probably spending way too much time reformatting so your team can see it, review it, and approve it.
With your social media content on Airtable, it makes it easy for someone to upload different versions, comment on them, and download them in less than a second to post.
Collaborating With Different Teams
One of the best parts of using Airtable’s social media content calendar is that you can work with different roles within your content team in a smooth way.
Each person can have their own dashboard, filtered by owner, status, or project.
So say if your team is composed of a copywriter, a designer, and a project manager, you can each view what you’re responsible for. Say goodbye to just getting notifications. You can get a pulse check of all your projects in your own view.
This also helps when working with external partners, because you can share a “FOR [ORG NAME] VIEW.” And if you have multiple writers working on multiple projects, you can also create dashboards for them.
Filters and Search
When you have a lot of content, it can be tough to find what you’re looking for. This is where Airtable’s filtering and sorting capabilities come in handy. You can filter your view by owner, status, or project. You can also sort your view alphabetically, chronologically, or by the date you last edited the content.
If you’re like me and you remember that you created something at some point and only remember a word that you use, Airtable’s social media calendar will save you!
Through their filtering and their search function, you can find every single piece of information that mentions that keyword.
Creating a Social Media Posting Schedule
The Airtable social media content calendar can automatically create a social media posting schedule for you. You can do this by clicking on the “Automatically Post” button on the top right hand corner.
In the window that pops up, you can select the date range, time zone, and social media platforms you want to post to. You can also select whether you want to post immediately or create
You can also create a status called “Ready to Post” and whoever is responsible for that status, can plan to post them based on your deadlines. Or you can use Zapier to make it happen.
Automation with Zapier, Forms, and Their API
Airtable’s social media calendar also allows you to integrate forms and other apps to automate processes. For example, you can use Zapier to automatically:
- Post your content to social media
- Email your team when a piece of content is published
- Create hundreds of documents with inputs for SEO content
- Turn a Slack message into an Airtable entry
For context, Zapier is a tool that allows users to connect different web applications and automate tasks between them. For example, a user could use Zapier to automatically add new contacts from a CRM to a mailing list in a separate email marketing tool. These automations will remove all the manual work you do via email, docs, etc.
And while you are at it, you can create a form that integrates with your Airtable social media calendar. This is a form that is a public link you can share internally or externally.
And once people fill out the entries, it’ll be added an entry to your calendar. How sick is that?
Lastly, you can also use Airtable’s API to connect your content calendar to other databases or apps you’re using.
So now instead of manually inputting all your content into Airtable, you can automate all these process, and save your team weeks of time.
